Damascus is a city located in
Clackamas County, Oregon. According to the county, the city had a
population in 2000 of 12,851.
The city is located east of Happy Valley and Interstate 205 and west
of Boring; its northern boundary is the Multnomah County line.
According to Oregon Geographic Names, Damascus can date its
existence as a community back to 1867, when a post office by that
name was established. That post office was closed in 1904. The
original heart of the community is along Oregon Highway 212, which
as of 2004 now serves as part of the city's southern boundary.
Mountain View Golf Club
Mountain View Golf Club offers
wonderful views of three Cascade mountains including Mount Hood.
This course's terrain varies in elevation, very hilly in spots. A
good example is the signature hole, a 185 yard par three, that has a
200 foot drop from the tee to the green. There is water that comes
into play on six holes and the greens are undulating with average
size and speed. The fairways are tree lined with well placed bunkers
and a creek that runs through it. Mountain View is located half way
between Portland and Mt. Hood in the town of Boring.
Mt. Hood National Forest
The Mt. Hood National Forest- Located twenty miles east of the city
of Portland, Oregon, and the northern Willamette River valley, the
Mt. Hood National Forest extends south from the strikingly beautiful
Columbia River Gorge across more than sixty miles of forested
mountains, lakes and streams to Olallie Scenic Area, a high lake
basin under the slopes of Mt. Jefferson. The Forest encompasses some
1,067,043 acres.
A three-day, loop backpack in the Bull of the Woods Wilderness. Although
this hike is perfect for several days, it’s a wonderful day hike as
well—day hike, that is, if you limit yourself to the first 5 miles of the
loop. So, if time is limited, try hiking the easiest 5 miles of them all.
Special attractions: A waterfall; scenic Elk Lake Creek; old-growth
forest; wildlife; grand views.
